save the owls

Fort Edward Development in Grasslands
A large subdivision has been proposed to be built in the Fort Edward Grasslands Important Bird Area. At the public hearing on May 14, 2007, the Fort Edward Town Board voted to send the proposed law back to the Planning Board for further consideration and possible revision. Why is it money comes before Gods creatures..We all know it wont be long before the decision is made to take the owls home away in place of affordable living for us..

State environmental officials have told the town of Fort Edward that the planned Killian's View subdivision could decimate the town's population of endangered short-eared owls.

A letter to the town dated May 4, from Kenneth Kogut, regional wildlife manager with the state Department of Environmental Conservation, states that construction of the subdivision could result in an increased number of deaths among both the endangered short-eared owls and northern harrier, which is a threatened species in New York state.

So why even talk about it...Just find another place to build...

Do you agree?

Of course they should find another place to build and that should be it but we both know that that won't happen without all kinds of fussing and fighting!
Good luck though becca in your support of these lovely birds

Geez that pisses me off! why legislate protection over species if all that is going to happen is that some beurocratic dickhead is going to fold the moment money is mentioned. The same thing happenes here in Australia.. Developers find a way around FFG and EPBC legislation and one by one endangered species habitat sites are destroyed. When will people learn?
